Show events on your site

← Repeating events · Next: Manage sign-ups →

Making an event is only half the job. Now let people see it and sign up.
There are a few easy ways.

The easiest way: your Events pages already work

Good news: KeepsYa upgrades your main Events page and your Trainings and
Camps category pages automatically. Visitors get a tidy grid of event cards
with:

  • Filter buttons (like Trainings / Camps / All), day-of-week pills (Mon / Wed /
    Fri, only the days your sessions run, handy for repeating trainings), and dropdowns for
    age and tags, so they can narrow the list without the page reloading.
  • A Sort dropdown (soonest first, or grouped by type).
  • Page numbers at the bottom when there are a lot of events.

So you may not need to do anything. Send people to your Events page and they can
browse and sign up.

A multi-day camp that’s already running still shows here (with an “In progress,
N days left” badge) so families can still join for the remaining days, instead of
vanishing the moment it starts. Single-day events still drop off once they begin.

Hiding cancelled events. A cancelled event never shows a Sign Up button and its
page won’t take registrations. If you’d rather it not appear in your listings at
all, turn on Settings → General → “Hide cancelled events from the public
event listings.”

Put events on any page with a shortcode

A shortcode is a small piece of text in square brackets that you drop into a
page. When the page loads, KeepsYa turns it into real event cards. You do not need
any code skills.

To add one:

  1. Edit the page where you want events (or make a new page).
  2. Add a block and pick Shortcode (in the standard WordPress editor), or just
    type the shortcode into a text/paragraph block.
  3. Type the shortcode, then Update the page.

The main shortcode is [keepsya_events]. By itself it shows your upcoming
events:

[keepsya_events]

You can add options inside the brackets to change it. A few useful examples:

Show 8 upcoming events in 2 columns:

[keepsya_events limit="8" columns="2"]

Show only the Camps category:

[keepsya_events category="soccer-camp"]

Show events with filter buttons and an age dropdown:

[keepsya_events filters="type,age"]

You do not have to memorize the options. The Shortcode helper (below) builds
them for you. For the full list, see the
shortcode reference.

Use the Shortcode helper (no typing options)

KeepsYa includes a helper that builds shortcodes for you with clicks instead of
typing:

  • In the standard WordPress editor, add the KeepsYa block, or
  • Use the Shortcode picker button in the toolbar when editing a post.

Pick what you want to show, choose your options, and it writes the shortcode for
you. Then save the page.

Other handy shortcodes

You probably will not need all of these, but here is what they do:

  • [keepsya_events] – a list or grid of events (the main one).
  • [keepsya_event] – one single detail of one event, like just its price or
    date. Handy for custom layouts.
  • [keepsya_account] – the customer account area (sign in, saved players,
    account credit, and their sign-up history). Put this on a page called “My
    Account” and add it to your menu.
  • [keepsya_punch_card] – a form where people can buy a punch card (a
    prepaid bundle of sessions).
  • [keepsya_training_schedule] – a schedule view of your training sessions.
  • [keepsya_training_booking] – a form to sign up for several training
    sessions at once.

Using the Bricks builder or blocks

If your site is built with the Bricks page builder, KeepsYa adds a KeepsYa
Event
element you can drag onto the page. You can also build a custom event
card out of normal Bricks parts (a heading, text, a button, an image) and connect
each part to event information using KeepsYa’s data tags, such as:

  • {keepsya_event_title}
  • {keepsya_event_date}
  • {keepsya_event_time}
  • {keepsya_event_location}
  • {keepsya_event_register_url} (use this for a Register button’s link)
  • {keepsya_event_price}

If your site uses the normal WordPress block editor, the KeepsYa block does
the same job as the shortcode helper.

Page-builder work can get technical. If you are not sure, the
[keepsya_events] shortcode is the simplest path and works everywhere.
